Dennis Jaffe

Dr. Jaffe, a San Francisco-based advisor to families about family business, governance, wealth, and philanthropy, is Senior Research Fellow at BanyanGlobal Family Business Advisors.

 

He is author of Borrowed from Your Grandchildren: The Evolution of 100-Year Family Enterprises; Finding Her Voice and Leaving a Legacy; Cross Cultures: How Global Families Negotiate Change Across Generations; Stewardship in your Family Enterprise: Developing Responsible Family Leadership Across Generations and Working with the Ones You Love.

 

His global insights have led to teaching or consulting engagements in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America.

 

The Family Firm Institute awarded him the 2017 International Award for service, and in 2005 he received the Beckhard Award for service to the field. In 2020 he was awarded a special commendation as an individual thought leader in the field of wealth management by the Family Wealth Report.

 

He has a BA degree in Philosophy, MA in Management, and Ph.D. in sociology, all from Yale University, and professor emeritus of organizational systems and psychology at Saybrook University in San Francisco.

Patricia M. Armstrong

Pat is a Family Wealth Consultant and Family Leadership Coach. 

 

As an advisor to families of wealth, family leaders, and family offices Pat provides coaching and consultation on effective communication about wealth and its impact on family dynamics, engagement with the rising generation of family leaders, governance and decision-making in family business, and vision and mission planning for family philanthropy and family enterprise. 

 

Pat was a co-founder and senior director of the Institute for Family Culture with Abbot Downing, Wells Fargo’s multi-family office and was head of Family Dynamics at Wells Fargo Family Wealth. She was the human resources director for Wells Fargo’s Private Bank and held a series of management roles focused on developing talent.

 

In her earliest professional life, Pat was an independent management consultant to family businesses and nonprofit organizations, a faculty member in psychology and a mental health program director. 

 

Pat holds a doctoral degree in psychology and a certificate in executive coaching from Columbia University.  She is a member of the Family Firm Institute (FFI), the American Psychological Association (APA) and serves on the Advisory Board of the Global Family Office Community.

Dr Jeremy Lurey

Dr. Jeremy Lurey is a Consultant with The Family Business Consulting Group.  Jeremy is a talented executive coach, business consultant, and family advisor who supports family offices and family businesses with the critical leadership and governance practices required to create more sustainable futures.  Over the past 25 years, he has served clients ranging from families of significant wealth to mid-market companies to Fortune 500 corporations.

 

Jeremy is passionate about helping established families create greater value for their shareholders and transition their businesses and transfer their wealth to the next generation.  He excels at supporting Baby Boomers transitioning into retirement and their NextGen successors accepting increased business and personal responsibilities.  Over the years, Jeremy has also supported siblings, cousins, married partners, and parents, along with their children, by regularly facilitating family forums and retreats, preparing family charters, and providing family counseling and coaching beyond his direct efforts to improve performance and produce better results in their businesses.

 

Jeremy is a proud husband, father, brother, son, and owner of 3 rescue dogs.  In addition to his role as a consultant, Jeremy frequently presents at professional conferences and seminars and has authored several publications on family business, succession planning, organization development, leadership, and family legacy.  His clients regularly acknowledge his ability to get them unstuck, act more “leader-like” and focus on what matters most in their lives.

 

Before joining FBCG, Jeremy worked at both PricewaterhouseCoopers and Andersen Consulting.  He also managed his own coaching and consulting practices where he has served clients of all sizes and across numerous industry sectors.

Thomas Brown

Thomas is a third-generation principal who oversees his family’s interests, chiefly land-based energy assets in the United States. 

 

He is also a Yale-educated psychologist who applied his training to business in the early dot-com era, where he drove a series of highly successful exits in Silicon Valley.  

 

In 2006, he founded Ad Altius Advisors, a boutique board consultative and M&A advisory platform. He brings a psychologist’s mindset to business, and his areas of focus include complex transactions, conflict prevention, and crisis management, with a special focus on family-owned business.

 

He and his firm have advised significant family offices on highly sensitive matters, and he has advised boards of directors in the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia.  He has also worked with funds in the early stages of their life cycle to ensure alignment between fund management, LPs and deployment targets.

 

Catherine Grum

Founder, Catherine Grum Consultancy Ltd

 

Catherine advises families and family offices around family office establishment, strategy, family governance and succession. She believes that when families understand their values and the purpose of their wealth, they can build on much stronger foundations and, by aligning their structures and activities with this, create sustainable long-term solutions. 

 

Recent work has included advising on the governance and succession arrangements for a founder-led family office, facilitating the regular meetings of a family shareholder committee, running workshops for the rising generation of a family business and advising on the establishment of a new family office.
 
She has worked with enterprising families for over 20 years, gaining a unique perspective from the combination of roles she has held. This has included establishing family office advisory practices in two large professional services firms (BDO and KPMG), heading a private office and sitting on the board of three international trust companies (Salamanca Group) and coordinating wealth structuring with investment management (Barclays Wealth). This all built on her training as a private client lawyer at Allen & Overy.  
 
Recognized as a thought-leader in the family office industry, Catherine has previously been named as one of EPrivate Client’s 50 Most Influential, one of Family Capital’s Top 100 Family Influencers and in the Private Client Global Elite. She has written, spoken and been interviewed on topics ranging from family office design to next generation planning.
 
Catherine has an MA in Jurisprudence from Oxford University, is a Trust & Estates Practitioner (STEP) and a Family Business Adviser (STEP)

Nikè Anani

Nikè Anani is a the Director of Next Gen Advisory for Northern Trust Wealth Management. In her role, she prepares next generation family members for the complexities of wealth ownership. Her personal experience as a second generation owner and family office founder is the inspiration behind her passion for helping other next gens find their voice and become successful stewards.

An accomplished speaker and author on wealth and values transfer strategies, Nikè is the host of “The Connected Generation” podcast and the author of “Lifetime to Legacy: A New Vision for Multigenerational Family Businesses.”

Nikè earned an economics degree from University College London, is a chartered accountant and has a certificate in Family Business and Family Wealth Advising from Family Firm Institute. She is a board member of YPO’s Global Family Business Network, where she champions initiatives to support education and peer learning of the next generation.

Bilal Zein

Bilal Zein set up a Single Family Office in 2001, which he continues to run.

 

It covers the complete range of family office services, including strategic advice, financial administrative and concierge services, and philanthropy.

 

Bilal’s C-Level experience ranges across several sectors from industrial engineering, trading, environmental management, property, and hospitality in the EMEA region. He has extensive experience of overseeing organisational and entity level restructuring initiatives, looking for practical solutions to complex problems.

 

Bilal has a particular interest in family dynamics, family governance, and succession issues, focusing on wealth management and transfer with an integrated approach to risk management across family and financial assets.  

 

He holds a Bachelors’ Degree in Electrical Engineering and an MBA from ESCP, along with various Certificates in Financial Management. More recently he has undertaken the STEP Postgraduate Diploma in Private Wealth Advising, and holds FFI Advanced Certificates in Family Business and Family Wealth Advising. He is a member of the FFI 2019-2021 UK/Europe Regional Planning committee.
